Pelican for the Data Center

When you need robust 24x7, scalable and flexible transcoding, Pelican for Data Center is what you need.

Each Pelican comes with eight user-expandable slots for CodeDensity™ accelerator modules. Each module supports up to 32 decoders and 32 encoders – meaning you can easily add capacity as needed.

File Workflow Powerhouse

When in "file mode", Pelican can be configured with multiple file transcode engines which decode incoming files and transcode them to an output target format. Multiple input queues are supported. Transcode speed can reach up to 300 frames-per-second. All at only 3 Watts per stream!

Flexible Interfacing

Multiple I/O mechanisms are possible: "drop box", FTP, and Web upload/download. "Drop box" transcode engines connect to an external server using industry standard NFS or CIFS protocols and wait for files to arrive. Transcoded output files are put back into a sub-folder when complete.

File transcode requests can also be submitted via FTP. When complete, output files are transferred back to the originating FTP server (or even a different FTP server).

Finally, the simplest way to submit files for transcoding is to upload them directly from your web browser. When complete, Pelican provides a web link: one click to download the file to your browser.

Real Time, Live Transcode

When operating in "Live" mode, Pelican provides real time transcoding of multiple input streams. A wide variety of input and output stream formats is supported. Additionally, a single input stream can be transcoded into multiple output streams within a single live "engine".

For example, OTT content typically requires the same content in multiple bit rates in order to form a ladder. With Pelican, forming OTT ladders is a snap – simply set the bit rates and resolutions for each output and you are done!
